What Is?

Landed cost tracking (LCT) provides visibility of imported goods while retaining control of all associated costs, resulting in accurate landed costs.

Within SYSPRO, landed cost tracking tracks the purchase orders that your merchandise goods are ordered on; the ship, aircraft etc that the goods are despatched on and all the associated non-merchandise costs e.g. duty, insurance, shipping etc.

SYSPRO Solution

The Landed Cost Tracking system aids the calculation of a more accurate actual cost at which to receive imported goods. It provides an actual cost comparison to the various estimates made during the procurement cycle and enables the archiving of completed shipments and associated costs.

Process Flow

Stock is purchased from foreign suppliers, either for resale or as raw materials for manufactured goods.

When the goods are ready for shipment the foreign suppliers notify us of the name of the vessel or aircraft etc. and the expected departure date. They then supply us with a shipment contents note which confirms the type of goods and quantities of each product loaded on the vessel. While the goods are in transit you will receive invoices for the non-merchandise costs (e.g. duty, freight, insurance etc) from your insurance company, the shippers and customs and excise. You allocate these actual amounts to the shipment to add to the cost of the goods. Using calculations these amounts will be apportioned correctly over the entire shipment.

The goods arrive in stores and after checking and inspecting the items they are received into inventory against the relevant shipment contents note.

The invoices for duty, freight, insurance etc are approved for payment or queried. If the invoices are approved for payment they will be paid from the next check run.

Invoices received from your foreign suppliers will be posted, approved and paid.

Tariff codes are linked to a stock item and this is used to calculate duty costs.

Purchases Orders

Purchase order lines are linked to shipments. Purchase order line due dates are updated when added to shipments.

Accounts Payable

Shipping cost invoices are entered and apportioned across cost elements e.g. Freight, Duty etc. and shipments. These invoices are added as registered invoices not updating the suppliers balance until they are approved.

Sales Orders

Line due dates on linked sales orders to purchase orders can be tracked on the Sales Order Action report.
